The four return after a month's holiday following their World Cup exertions
Messi and Mascherano, who played in the final, and Alves and Neymar, who were with the hosts at the World Cup, back in training with the rest of the first team squad this morning after a month’s holidays. The four will be back in training this afternoon, whilst the rest of the squad have been given the afternoon off.
Luis Enrique’s squad began training on July 14 and over the last few weeks the players who figured in Brazil have been coming back. With the incorporation of Neymar, Messi, Mascherano and Alves, Luis Enrique has a virtually complete squad to complete his preparations for the coming season.
Xavi and Mathieu both worked apart in training this morning, with the Club doctors ruling them out of the Napoli game as a precaution. Xavi suffered a slight calf strain in training on Monday and Mathieu felt a twinge in his left hamstring. Neymar Jr will also be given a thorough examination by the Club’s Medical Services to evaluate his recovery from the back injury he suffered against Colombia in the World Cup quarter finals.
