The FC Barcelona midfielder analyses the match, as do his teammates Andrés Iniesta, Javier Mascherano, Munir El Haddadi and Claudio Bravo
FC Barcelona rode a dream start at La Rosaleda on Saturday with Munir El Haddadi’s second minute goal providing an early boost in what eventually became a 2–1 road victory over Málaga CF.
Midfielder Sergio Busquets, who held the midfield together throughout the day, was the first player to speak to reporters after the game. Here are the highlights of what he had to say:
"The first half was very difficult, they beat us in all the individual duels. The best was going into break tied.”
"[In the second half] they got tired and we played much better. That’s when Leo [Messi] scored."
"The three points are very important. Leagues are won in games like these.”
Iniesta, Mascherano, Munir and Bravo also made statements after the match:
"There’s no explanation for how badly we played in the first half. Despite the early goal, we were not good. Málaga deserved more than a 1–1 game at the half.”
"We were not comfortable. Málaga were very well placed and they took advantage of our turnovers. In the second half we were much better."
"It's very difficult to win away from home in this league. We are very happy because it was very important to get points with a game in hand. Now we have to recover as best we can for Wednesday."
"The team has always tried to compete and win. We have won more due to individual quality than anything else, but the three points are great."
"It's a plus to have Messi. Like having Iniesta, Suárez and Neymar. When we are not good in general they give you the chance to win the game. It was vital to win."
"We look at the first half as a warning for the next game, but let’s not go crazy. We are performing well. The great teams also win when they play poorly."
"It is very important get the three points. Málaga are a very strong team and they always give us trouble. In the second half we raised our intensity we played well. I’ve just waited for my opportunity and now it has arrived. I am very happy."
"We were not as brilliant as in other games, but we knew how to trudge forward in the match. Avoiding goals is part of my job, trying to stop other teams’ scoring chances. We are very self-critical and demanding and we didn’t liked conceding that goal today."
