After the Malian left FC Barcelona after four years at the club, Tito Vilanova will need to find a replacement. Young Jonathan dos Santos and Sergi Roberto are two good options if he wants to find the solution locally.
- Jonathan dos Santos will start the season as a first team member. The 22 year old Mexican has turned down a spot at the Olympic Games in order to consolidate his position in the squad. After a decade in the club’s youth system, this could be his chance. He has been playing as a central playmaker for Barça B under Eusebio, developing into one of the most prominent players in the side. He’s a skilful and versatile midfielder with an excellent shot, and extremely useful when it comes to bringing the ball forward from the back.
- Sergi Roberto is another possibility in a more interior role. Aged 22, he has been with Barça B for three years, and has never stopped improving. He has impressed in all facets of the game, both defensively and in attack. He’s physically tough, and makes powerful runs into the opposition’s area. He reads the game intelligently and is noted for the amount of effort he puts into every game. A highly reliable and consistent player, he is another option well worth the consideration of the coaching staff.
