“We will start to plan for the next season on the 25th. “We have to respect the time frame and the priorities of the Club and the team,” said Andoni Zubizarreta on BarçaTV. All executive decisions and planning for the 2012/13 season have been tabled until after the King’s Cup Final, which will be played on May 25th in Madrid against Athletic Club.
The Football Director recognises that “during the season we’ve had regular meetings on planning and monitoring players with Pep and Tito,” but now it’s time to focus exclusively on the Cup, the last title in play this season for FC Barcelona. On the decision to make Tito Vilanova FC Barcelona’s head manager next season, Zubizarreta said, “finding a replacement for Pep was not an easy decision. It was a long and complicated process.”
Leo Messi, who broke Gerd ‘Torpedo’ Müller’s record of most goals scored in a single season, was also mentioned by Zubizarreta. “Perhaps in hindsight, looking back after 10 years, we’ll see it [Messi’s record] as something unique, unrepeatable. However, all we have to say is that these records are breakable for Leo to go out and do it again. Moreover, Messi isn’t just decisive with the goals he scores, but with the game he generates and for the personality he gives the team.”
