The players managed by Xavi Llorens closed out their season after being eliminated in the semifinals of the Copa de la Reina but having won the Superliga crown, the first Superliga title in the Club's history. Barça will play in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League next season

Beyond the team's collective awards, Sonia Bermudez finished the season as the Superliga's top scorer

Despite being eliminated from the Copa de la Reina this Friday by Athletic Club (2-0), the season for the FC Barcelona Women’s team has been historic. The players led by Xavi Llorens won the first Liga in Club history after a year of hard work and effort.

Champions of the Superliga

The Azulgranas have had a spectacular Liga campaign. Of the 34 matches played, 2 ended in defeat - against Rayo Vallecano (3-2) and Athletic Club (3-1)- and 1 in a draw - Espanyol (3-3)-, all of the matches that Barça didn’t win were played away from home. As the home side, however, the women’s team have an impeccable record: they won all of their 17 matches.

After a year marked by consistency, Llorens’ players won the Superliga in the last match day of the season after beating Sporting Huelva by 1-0. This is the first ever Liga title won by the FC Barcelona Women’s team and culmination of six years of hard work by the Club’s technical staff and players.

Qualification for the Women’s Champions League

Having won the Liga, Barça will play in next year’s Champions League qualifying round, a first for the Club, and according to Sonia Bermudez, “it’s an experience that you learn a lot from.”

The Azulgrana striker also had an impressive season: 38 goals in one season. Her goal haul earned her the Pichichi award of the Superliga. Sonia recognised, in an interview with the fcbarcelona.com, that she won the award thanks to the good dynamics of the team: “100% of the recognition for this award belongs to the team. They are my teammates and without them I wouldn’t have scored any goals.”

Elimination from the Copa de la Reina

Athletic Club eliminated the Azulgranas from the KO competition after netting twice and not conceding any in the semifinals. However, Barça did win the competition last season and with the Superliga won this season, the team can look forward to next year with a lot of confidence.
