Two centres in Delhi, more than 3,000 children across the country and 30 coaches with the FCB seal, are the figures that go with this project.
FC Barcelona is the first football club to organise a nationwide project, via the FCBEscola.
After three years of hard work, FCBEscola in India is a reality. It was the most difficult challenge facing the FC Barcelona official school, which already has two centers in Delhi at full performance, after overcoming hundreds of obstacles, and is helping people to get to know football in a country where soccer is neither played nor followed on a grand scale.
1,300 million people, one club
Barça is the first football club to carry out a global project all over the country, a country with 1,300 million people, and where there is no tradition of football, or even sport in general. The most difficult, and most ambitious, challenge for FCBEscola has seen the light following many trials in cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Dehradum, Raipur, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Goa and Delhi itself. To carry out all these activities and entrance trials, the training of FCBEscola coaches has been, and still is, ongoing, and currently has a coaching staff of 30 people.
Activities with over 3,000 kids
Currently, in the two centres that FCBEscola already runs in Delhi, there are about 200 children who have passed the entrance trials at the school, following different selection processes, with 1,500 children at each centre, to choose the best. FCBEscola has organized activities right across the country, with more than 3,000 children of differing level, helping them understand football and giving the children their first opportunity to play with the ball. Out of the 200 kids who regularly attended the FCBEscola in Delhi, two have already been selected for the India Under-15 side. Currently, FCBEscola in Delhi welcomes children up to 16-17 years of age.
The arrival of FC Barcelona to India, in the form of the FCBEscola, was an incredible event there, as could be seen at the official presentation of the new FCBEscola centres in Delhi, with over 200 media outlets covering the event. FCBEscola has made football popular in India since his arrival in the country.
The project began in September and already has 70 children enrolled.
The FCBEscola Singapore – a project which was three years in the planning, -has been up and running since September and is already a great success. Children between 6 and 12 years old can enjoy the FC Barcelona way of doing things and with inscriptions already running at a high rate, there is even a chance of extending the age range to 14 next year.
High level of inscriptions
Currently, there are 70 boys and girls signed up, with a couple of days of trials still to go, and the directors of the centre have been pleasantly surprised by the take up so far. What’s more, the young footballers – both locals and foreigners- have shown fantastic levels of footballing skills. The coaches have run two training sessions to choose the best players , who are working under the supervision of the FCBEscola and coordinator of the school in Singapore, Carles Martín.
The FCBEscola and Club values
The FCBEscola schools – the Club’s own footballing academies – have been set up across the world in countries as varied as India, Poland, Egypt, Japan, Dubai, Peru or Kuwait. Thousands of children from all over the world learn footballing skills and share the values and education of FC Barcelona - pride, fair play, loyalty, professionalism, effort and respect are the universal values that Barça is based on.
Four FCBEscola managers are in Antalya to train Turkish children in FC Barcelona's training methodology
In cooperation with FC Barcelona’s official partner AVEA – a Turkish telecommunications company – FCBEscola Avea Camp officially opened up this Thursday in Turkey. The city chosen to host the Campus is Antalya, in the south of the country. Over 100 players from around the Turkey converged to participate in the camp. In addition, many of the participants are orphans from local orphanages thanks to AVEA’s Social Corporate Responsibility programme and FC Barcelona’s commitment to social responsibility.
Four FCBEscola managers made the trip to Turkey in order to facilitate and teach FC Barcelona’s training methodology to the participants. Throughout the week, the players have shown eagerness and a very high level of play, which allows them all to truly enjoy football. The participants train for three and a half hours a day, where Barça’s tactical and technical concepts are taught. Values like respect and teamwork are always part of the training regiment.
Barça’s popularity grows in Turkey
FCBEscola’s new campus in Turkey reaffirms the ambitious training project that’s taking place in the country with the invaluable help from AVEA. It seems that there are most Barça kits and scarfs worn in Turkey each day.
The new FCBEscola campuses in Singapore and Santo Domingo are up and running, and they've been well received by both countries
Between the two schools, more than 600 children will undergo the training regiment after they successfully participated in the trails
This past Saturday the FCBEscola in Singapore opened its gates for the first time, and since then children have participated regularly in the training regiment provided by the school. The project in Singapore, which was presented three years ago, has been a complete success.
A couple of months ago the Club announced the opening of a new FCBEscola in Asia, the one in Singapore. This new school, which started operating in the last week of September, was officially presented this past Saturday. It has a 250-player capacity, and it was preceded by various FCBCamps throughout the country.
FCBEscola Singapore is situated on the St. Patricks School campus, and children from 6 to 12 years old can develop their footballing skills and learn the values of FCBEscola, which are respecting team-mates, managers and to care for their surrounding environment. This new project is under the direction and responsibility of FCBEscola and it is coordinated by the FCBEscola coach, Carles Martín.
FCBEscola in Santo Domingo
Another school that also started up at the end of September is located in Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. More than 300 children that passed the trials in July and August – more than 1,500 children participated in the trials – started training in the FCBEscola in Santo Domingo under the direction of the FCBEscola coach, Aleix Gibert.
With the arrival of the FC Barcelona model, the Club has revolutionised the island’s interest in football. Up until now, the most popular sport in the Dominican Republic has been baseball, but with the arrival of FCBEscola and with it, the model, the philosophy and the values of FC Barcelona, more than 300 children have jumped at the chance to enroll for training. In fact, many children of baseball players are enrolled in the FCBEscola in Santo Domingo, which highlights the interest the Dominican Republic has in the sport.
