Barça B put in a colossal performance this Saturday at the Rico Pérez. Throughout the 90 minutes of play, the men led by Eusebio put in a great showing against Hércules and claimed their fourth consecutive victory in the Liga Adelante. The first half ended with 0-0 on the scoreboard, but in the second the Azulgrana reserve side only needed 20 minutes to put the game away. Luis Alberto, Lombán and Espinosa scored for Barça B.
Goalless first half despite opportunities
The Barça reserve side came out onto the pitch with the intention of commanding the pace of the game. Eusebio’s men, who enjoyed long spells of possession, were quick to create their first goal scoring chance. On eight minutes, Ilie found Grimaldo on the wing, but the left back’s shot was deflected to a corner by the Hércules keeper Falcón. It was the first of many chances for the Azulgranas.
Barça B, led by Rafinha and Luis Alberto in the midfield, dominated possession and were quick to win the ball back whenever Hércules managed to dispossess the Azulgranas. Both Rafinha and Luis Alberto had chances to score Barça’s opener: the first on 19 minutes, and the second on 30 minutes, but the Seville-born player wasn’t lucky in front of goal.
Hércules’ only chance in the first half fell to Portillo on the 42nd minute, but his shot went narrowly wide of Oier’s goal.
Intense second half
The first minutes of the second half saw Hércules surge forward in an attempt to knick the go-ahead goal. Portillo and Gavilán both had chances to score before Eusebio’s men wrestled away control of the game from the home side.
The Alicante-based team were pinned back, but Barça B’s forwards weren’t having luck in front of goal. Eusebio’s substitutions, Dongou and Patric for Araujo and Deulofeu, were just what the team needed to find the back of the net.
Deluge of goals
Barça finally scored its first with 20 minutes to go before full time. On a throw in, Dongou controlled the ball with his back to goal and passed the ball off to Luis Alberto, who skipped past Diego Rivas and slotted the ball into the back of the net.
The goal demoralised the home team, and Eusebio’s men took advantage of the situation. Luis Alberto was fouled in the box by Diego Rivas and David Lombán scored Barça’s second from the penalty spot (min 76).
The final goal
The home side went forward in the dying minutes of the match, but Barça B proved impenetrable at the back. Javier Espinosa, after a collective play, received the ball in the Hércules area and beat Falcón to score Barça’s third. Game over, three more points for Barça B.
