Despite putting in plenty of good work to deserve the points, Eusebio’s team came away from the Mini on Friday night with nothing, as the woodwork and some defensive frailty condemned them to defeat against Recreativo. An opener from Deulofeu had made it 1-0 and Rafinha then made it 2-1 after the visitors had drawn level, but two goals in the last seven minutes sentenced Eusebio’s side to their second home defeat.
Two goals but few chances
Chances were at a premium in the first 45 minutes, but Barça B went ahead when Gerard Deulofeu rounded off a quick counter after a good diagonal ball from Luis Alberto. Before that, Rafinha had hit the woodwork, but a well marshalled Recreativo side were denying their hosts possession and on more than one occasion they could have caused damage as Eusebio’s youngsters lost the ball coming out of defence and it was from such an incident that Matamala got the equaliser on 34 minutes.
Barça improvement, but still defeat
Barça B upped their game after the break though and were soon on top. Grimaldo saw a free kick rattle the woodwork before Rafinha went one better to put them 2-1 up from another free kick. It could have been 3-1 soon after when a third free kick nearly went in, only for Luis Alberto’s effort again to hit a post.
The hosts were made to pay for those posts when Sergi Barjuan’s side turned the game around with two quick goals in the last seven minutes from Alexander and Valle to take the points with a brilliant exhibition of efficiency that gave them the win despite Barça being the better team overall.
