Spain’s U19 team started the European Championship off on the right foot. The Iberians beat Greece by 1-2 in Estonia thanks to the goals from Jesé and Derik. The Azulgranas Grimaldo and Deulofeu featured in Spain’s starting lineup.
Deulofeu a terror down the right wing
The Barça B striker was the first to test the Greek defence with a right-footed shot. In the following play, however, Spain netted its first goal through Jesé. The Real Madrid B player took advantage of a pass made by Deulofeu before he rid himself of two defenders and beat the goalkeeper. Derik scored Spain’s second goal before the break from a set piece.
Greece came close to mounting a comeback in the second half. Diamantakos missed a golden opportunity to score but his effort went wide, minutes later, however, he made amends as he sent the ball into the back of the Spanish goal. In the end, however, Spain held out and claimed the win.
Julen Lopetegui’s players will play Portugal on Friday (19:00) and Estonia on Monday (16:00).
