7,000 spectators watched Barça B beat Huddersfield at Galpharm Stadium this Wednesday evening in the Catalan team’s first summer friendly in the United Kingdom. After a very even and intense first half, Eusebio Sacristán’s men wrestled control of the match away from the home team in the second. Deulofeu, from the penalty spot on 63 minutes, and Araujo, 7 minutes later, sealed Barça B’s victory over Huddersfield. Despite the 0-2 scoreline, the home team enjoyed quite a few chances to score.
All the Azulgrana reserve players played with the exceptions of Olazábal and Bañuz.
Even first half
Huddersfield started the match with a lot of intensity. In fact, the English side enjoyed a couple of chances to score the opener through counterattacks, but the final touches weren’t good enough to beat Masip. Barça B, on the other hand, focused on retaining ball possession and looked for spaces in the English team’s very organised back line.
Despite not creating clear scoring chances, the B team dominated ball possession in addition to shutting down Huddersfield’s counterattacks.
A lot of substitutions in the second half
Sacristán sent out a completely different team in the second half. The starters Masip, Sergi Gómez and Planas were the only ones that weren’t subbed out at the start of the second half. The team came swinging in the first 10 minutes, with three consecutive chances to score. The first fell to Lobato but his shot was saved by Smithies, two minutes later Kiko tested the English keeper and Deulofeu tried his luck seconds later from outside the area.
The first goal came on 62 minutes when Deulofeu scored from the penalty spot.
Luis Alberto and Sergio Juste debut for Barça B
Luis Alberto and Sergio Juste both made their debuts for Barça B in the second half of the match. The ex-Sevilla player put in a good performance. He started the play that led to Barça B’s second goal. Sergio Juste came in with 15 minutes left on the clock and also put in a notable performance.
