The FC Barcelona party, headed by President Sandro Rosell travelled from Beijing to Shanghai, China's financial and commercial capital, for a series of meetings aimed at strengthening the Club's expansion into the Chinese market.
It was an intense day of work right from the start for the Club representatives, with a meeting at the Shanghai Olympic Stadium with the city's top sporting authorities on arrival in the city. The objective of the get together was to establish the bases for future cooperation agreements between local leaders and FC Barcelona, which will not just promote the Club itself in China, but the game of football as well.
In the afternoon the Club delegation held a series of commercial meetings aimed at reinforcing and strengthening the Club's profile in China. The reaction which the party have received since their arrival has made it clear that the Club is highly valued within China, not just for its sporting success, but also for the values it represents.
One example of this recognition is the interview which Club Vice-President Javier Faus gave to the Chinese version of "Forbes" magazine, one of the world's leading economic publications. The magazine plans to feature a special report on the Club in the near future.
The party returned to Beijing in the evening, where tomorrow they will have another busy day – their last of the trip. In the morning they will visit the HQ of the Chinese State TV channel, CCTV, where they will be received by the channel's bosses. As part of the visit, President Rosell will give an exclusive interview for the channel.
A series of meetings between President Rosell and Club Director Dídac Lee with local companies have also been scheduled before the two fly home. Vice-President Javier Faus and a number of other Club executives will stay on for a day and half more of meetings before they too conclude their trip.
