Tito Vilanova, Iniesta, Xavi, Valdés and Puyol already feature in the ‘Quit smoking with Barça’ campaign and now Carles Puyol has lent his image to the Foundation’s ‘Som el que mengem’ (We are what we eat) campaign. In addition to their exploits on the pitch, the players and coaches have shown their willingness to take part in campaigns to improve the lifestyle choices and health of the general population, in particular that of young people. This week has seen the launch of two such campaigns. One is designed to help 28 million smokers around Europe give up the habit and the other promotes healthy eating among children and young adults.
“Quit smoking with Barça”
The ‘Quit smoking with Barça’ campaign (quitsmokingwithbarca.eu) was launched on Tuesday as an alliance between the European Commission and FC Barcelona. It is the first time such an ambitious project has been undertaken as a cooperative venture between one of the most prestigious sports clubs on the international stage and the European authorities. Tito Vilanova, Andrés Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and Carles Puyol have all given their full, high-profile backing to the cause.

Team captain Carles Puyol has also lent his support to this healthy eating campaign promoted by the FCB Foundation. Following on from the success of last year’s campaign, the Foundation is once again encouraging a balanced diet among children and young people, using the players and the young hopefuls of the youth academy as prime examples of the benefits of healthy eating.
