Neymar, Piqué, Pedro and Sergi Roberto thank the Club’s Chinese fans for their support and welcome in the Chinese New Year, which is on January 31
It’s the third year on the run that the Barça players have taken part in what is the Chinese people’s most important celebration, which this year ushers in the Year of the Horse
Barça’s links with the Asian giant are increasing all the time and the Chinese language web site is now the second most important at the Club in terms of visits made
The recording of the video was done at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and the studio was specially decorated in a Chinese style with a lucky cat or the red lantern which are traditionally used to decorate Chinese homes at this period. The background behind the players has the message “Barça celebrate the Chinese New Year”. “The wind of spring brings luck and happiness” and “Success comes with the Year of the Horse”. Over the next few days the Club will release a special video with the best images from this session.
The first team players helped in the making of the video the Club has produced to mark the Chinese New Year, which occurs next Friday, January 31. Neymar, Piqué, Pedro and Sergi Roberto all feature in the video and speak to the fans in Mandarin Chinese. The tradition in China is to associate an animal with each year and for 2014, this is the Year of the Horse.
During the 30 second video, Neymar and Gerard Piqué wish the fans “a happy Chinese New Year”, whilst Sergi Roberto hopes they have “good luck” and Pedro asks them to “keep supporting our team”. All four also show their names written in Mandarin Chinese script.
It’s the third straight year that FC Barcelona has taken part in celebrating the Chinese New Year through its principal ambassadors – its players – a symbol of its special interest in China, a country with millions of Barça fans, which has led to numerous events to strengthen ties. The most recent was the ‘Barcelona Action’ competition which Barça organises with the Catalunya Turisme organisation and which involves a week of travelling through Catalonia, culminating on a game at the Camp Nou.
The FC Barcelona website in Chinese - www.fcbarcelona.cn – receives the second highest number of visitors at the Club, with 500.000 unique users a week, only just behind the English language version. On days like this Saturday, when the team play Valencia at four in the afternoon – peak hours in China – the Chinese site could easily be the most visited site of the day.
During the week leading up to the holiday, the Club has introduced a number of features to its website and via its official Tencent Weibo (t.qq.com/fcbarcelona) social network page, where Barça has 3 million fans – the largest of any sporting organisation in the country.
The Chinese fans can also enjoy a number of contents related to Barça and the New Year, such as special news items, photo galleries, videos and digital assets such as a commemorative screen shots.
