Catalonia ushers in the autumn season with La Castanyada, a festive day where castanyas (chestnuts) and panellets, traditional Catalan pastries, take centre stage
La Castanyada
In addition to Halloween, Catalonia celebrates the autumn season on October 31 with the Castanyada holiday. Catalan families observe the ancient tradition by eating chestnuts, panellets and moniatos (white sweet potatoes). The Castanyada, which is closely related to the Christian holiday of All Saints Day, is a festive day where children share chestnuts and panellets with their classmates and where families gather to celebrate the autumnal season in Catalonia.
