As the Board spokesperson Toni Freixa announced earlier this year, the first league game at the Camp Nou this season – on August 19th against Real Sociedad- will be the first when supporters will be allowed to leave during the game and at half time through the 29 gates specially prepared to give smokers the chance to smoke outside the ground. According to the agreement reached at the Assemblea de Socis Compromisaris, smoking will now be prohibited throughout the stadium, not just in the seating areas, but also in the passageways and corridors.
The temporary exit gates will allow smokers to leave and smoke on the Esplanade in front of the Stadium. This has not been possible until now, as the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) controlled aspects of the ticketing and turnstiles and it was not technically feasible to fully implement the “Barça sense fum” programme.
The Club will strictly adhere to the prohibition and implement the sanctions agreed on for every person breaking the rules on smoking – in both the seating and passageway areas- in the Camp Nou. Any person found smoking will be asked to put out the cigarette by club officials. Should they continue to smoke, they will be asked to leave and smoke outside via the special exit nearest to their seat. Should this offer not be taken up and the offender continue to smoke, security personnel will escort them out of the Stadium. The Club reserves the right to fine such individuals and if they are members to open a disciplinary process.
Exits marked in yellow
The gates reserved for exiting momentarily during the game(indicated on the accompanying map) will be marked with a yellow sign saying “SORTIDA TEMPORAL”. In order to exit and re-enter, you must use your season ticket or ticket. The nearest exit to your seat will be displayed on the handouts given as you enter the ground and on the posters distributed throughout the stadium.
After an intense information campaign, the Club implemented the total prohibition of smoking in all of its sports facilities last January after the Board ratified the decision taken at the of 2011 Assemblea de Compromissaris . The “Barça sense Fum” campaign aims to protect the health of all Barça supporters during games and help smokers to give up, as well as promote the values inherent in sport, such as health, respect and social commitment.
This pioneering initiative has enjoyed the support of the Conselleria de Salut and the Col·legi de metges of Barcelona, as well as specialised collectives in the treatment of tobacco addiction. Amongst other official awards for the programme, FC Barcelona received the Sociedad Española de Medicina de Familia y Comunitaria (semFYC) Prize for its decision to make the Camp Nou a smoke free zone. The European Commission also chose FC Barcelona for a combined campaign which will be rolled out this season to help European citizens to give up smoking.
