According to Twitter’s Business Development & Media Manager Glenn Otis Brown, the Catalan version of the service, which has been totally visible since July 5, will bring many fans in Catalonia “closer to the club they love”
Cardoner: “It fills us with joy and shows that our language is being normalised”
Twitter in Catalan has been a reality since July 5. FC Barcelona played an active role in the #twitterencatalà campaign, which has helped bring it closer to its fan base in Catalonia, as observed by Glenn Otis Brown, Twitter’s Business Development & Media Manager. “FC Barcelona is more than a Club” he said. “It is the most important team in the world, but it is also one of the biggest symbols of Catalan culture. We like to think that Twitter brings things closer, and here, for many Catalan people, Twitter means they feel closer to the club they love.” Catalan is the 30th language to be included on this social network.
Grateful to the Club
Albert Cuesta, one of the people who helped set up the #twitterencatalà campaign three years ago, spoke along similar lines. “It is a popular initiative that has involved the participation of thousand of users who wanted Twitter in their own language” he said. “All of these users are as important as each other, but it is true to say that the turning point for the Twitter campaign was the involvement of an entity like FC Barcelona, with its major capacity for diffusion … The Club has helped make more visible the desires of all these people”.
Cardoner: “Yet another achievement”
The vice president of the Social Area, Jordi Cardoner, is also pleased. “We are very excited about this, because we have collaborated and it means that our language is being normalised” he said. “Catalan is the 30th language on Twitter and the first that is not backed by a state. We are full of joy, it is yet another achievement that makes Barça really unstoppable and universal”.
