FC Barcelona has been recognised as the world’s top sports club on social networks at the Social Star Awards 2013 Gala organised by Starcount in Singapore. The awards are given annually to personalities and organisations in different areas of the social network universe. The Club won the award after being named as one of four finalists alongside Chelsea FC, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
The Club is a benchmark all over the world in the 2.0 environment, having been named top sports organisation at the last edition of the awards and this year’s prize was a recognition of its management in this area. The Club was represented at the gala by its Director in charge of New Technologies, Dídac Lee.
Didac Lee commented: “this is the culmination of a job we began three years ago. It’s difficult to reach this level, because the competition is very strong. This award is for all of the fans and supporters who give their total support to Barça for every game. Those are the people who have made this award possible. This award here in Singapore is another demonstration that Barça is the most loved Club in the world”.
Drew Thomson CEO of starcount said: "At starcount we track 1.7 billion fans across social media and, despite strong competition, FC Barcelona stand out from all other Teams in all sports for their social media popularity - and also for the passion of their Superfans who we track in our Fan Chart app. Starcount is very proud to recognise Barça with our Sports Team Social Star Award for 2013."
Barça’s more than 65 million social network fans across the world represent the global expansion of the Barça sentiment . The Club is present on Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube and Tencent Weibo and has opened official profiles on Instagram and Pinterest.
