The new and improved Barça Regal continues to grow. This Sunday, three days after defeating Lietuvos Rytas in Lithuania, Xavi Pascual’s men comfortably beat CAI Zaragoza in a match that was marked by Blaugrana dominance from the first quarter.
Mickeal starts strong
Pete Mickeal was Barça Regal’s crucial player at the start of the game. The North American, who scored seven points in the first quarter, seemed to be everywhere. He nabbed rebounds, provided assists and led the team to an 11-point advantage (10-21) eight minutes into the first quarter. Barça led CAI Zaragoza 15-21 after the initial 10 minutes.
Irregular second quarter
The last minutes of the first quarter and the first minutes of the second were fairly poor for both teams. Slow on the attack, CAI and Barça Regal were hardly able to score until the end of the second quarter. Todorovic, who scored six consecutive points, and Navarro, who served up an alley-oop for Sada at the buzzer, added fluidity to Barça’s attack and helped the team to a 10-point lead at the break (27-37).
Definitive second half
After the break, Barça Regal came out to prove they were the better side. The Blaugrana were so devastating at both ends of the court that CAI never really had a clear look at the basket. The visiting team jumped to a 20-point lead in the last minutes of the match, and retained that lead until the end of the game. Barça Regal secured its second consecutive win in the Liga Endesa, thus confirming its excellent form after a slow start to the season.
