Navarro and Sada’s Spain beat Joe Ingles’ Australia by 82 to 70 in the second round of matches of the Olympic Games in London. The match brought the three Barça Regal together, but only two played after La Bomba’s plantar fascia problems resurfaced last night. Ingles had a notable performance and finished the match as his team’s highest scorer (12), while Víctor Sada was on the court for the last three minutes of the game.
The turning point of the game came at the start of the third quarter. A 10 to 27 run allowed the Iberians to open up an important lead and put the game beyond the grasp of the Australians, who trailed throughout the fourth quarter and were ultimately unable to mount a comeback. After today’s win, Spain sit atop of Group A level on points with Russia.
Ingles leads his team
Ingles is a key player for his team and he proved it against Spain. In the first half he kept his country within striking distance of Spain by scoring 11 points. In fact, Australia only trailed by five at the break (32-37) and Scariolo’s men were showing signs of uncertainty.
In the second half, however, Ingles was unable to stem the Spanish onslaught. Sada scored two points for Spain.
