FC Barcelona 72-70 FC Bayern Munich: Another win in Europe at the Palau

Barça's 15th win in the EuroLeague keeps them in the hunt for top spot

An important, tough, last-gasp triumph for Barça against Bayern Munich at the Palau Blaugrana. That's now two wins a week at home in the EuroLeague, keeping them in the hunt for top spot in the league.

The Catalans beat a good Bavarian side who held out until the last throws of the game. Mirotic (12 points and 3 rebounds) and Satoransky (5 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds helped Barça to their 15th win in the league.

First half fairly even

The game began as it continued in the Palau, an evenly matched affair. Five minutes in the score was 10-10. Baskets were hard to come by but three pointers by Sanli and Mirotic kept Barça in touch, before another Sanli three pointer was part of a seven point uncontested run to go in 21-14 up.

The second quarter saw the Bavarians score six points without reply to come within a point. Vesely stepped up to redress the balance before another three pointer, this time by Abrines, to go nine points up. However, Bayern came back through Wimberg, 34-33 at the break.

Win confirmed in the final minute

Bayern came out stronger and took the lead for the first time (36-38, min. 21). Barça soon wrestled control back through a great alley-oop between Laprovittola and Satoransky that got the fans off their seats, and three pointers for each player, leaving the Bayern coach calling a time out. A wise decision as they came back to trail by only four at the end of the third (51-47).

The final quarter saw the inspired Catalans go 12 points up, the biggest lead of the game. However, the Bavarians doggedly reduce the deficit to two points with only two and half minutes left to the buzzer. Just when needed, Mirotic scored a superb three-pointer to put the Palau at ease (70-65). There was still time for more as Jaramaz tied the score with a minute to go (70-70) before a Cory Higgins basket and great defence saw out the game (72-70).
