The players celebrating Pablo Álvarez's goal | VÍCTOR SALGADO - FCB

Barça Lassa claimed a reasonably comfortable 5-2 victory against Reus Deportiu to progress to the final of the Spanish Super Cup (Saturday 8.45pm CET). They defeated the current European Champions thanks to a pair of goals from Bargalló, with Pablo Álvarez, Marc Gual, and Lucas Ordoñez the other scorers for Edu Castro’s side in a match they controlled from the off.

Bright start

Barça really hit the ground at full pelt, forcing the issue from the very first minute. With just five minutes on the clock, they took the lead when Pau Bargalló provided a fine assist to enable Pablo Álvarez to open the scoring.

Just two minutes elapsed before Edu Castro’s charges doubled their advantage. Pablo Álvarez’s effort forced a rebound and Marc Gual was at hand to score into the unguarded goal. Despite both sides having further efforts, the first half would end 2-0.

Reus response

The second half began with with Reus fighting back, and five minutes in they halved the deficit. Marín laid on the opportunity for Sergi Fernández, and the Reus number 9 was clinical in making the score 2-1.

But Barcelona were not to be deterred. Panadero posted a warning when he came close, and a minute later Bargalló would restore the side’s two goal cushion. He produced a great  piece of individual play before slamming the ball home to make it 3-1.

Barça seal the deal

Two minutes later, the Blaugrana survived a real scare. Reus had a great chance to get back into the game but Albert Casanovas missed a penalty, with Sergio Fernández denied on the follow up effort.

Barça continued to go for the jugular and would have their reward when Lucas Ordoñez increased the lead to 4-1 in the 41st minute with a smart finished. But right from the restart, Reus went down the other end and pegged the score back to 4-2 courtesy of Marc Torra’s effort from the right.

Bargalló looked to have put the tie beyond doubt when he scored from a direct free on 44 minutes to make the score 5-2. But, with a blue card for Pascual leaving Barça a man short, Torra failed to press home the advantage on 45 minutes, and Barça held out to secure a place on Saturday night’s final, which will also take place at Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà.
