FC Barcelona v Noia Freixenet: Continental Cup lost on penalties (3-3)

A frenetic ended saw the game go to penalties Torra, Álvarez and Gil (og) scored for Barcelona

FC Barcelona failed to win the Continental Cup at the Palau Blaugrana today after drawing 3-3 with Noia after extra time and losing the penalty shootout.

After the first leg ended 0-0, it took just six minutes to find a goal in the return, but it was for Noia’s Del Amor – the only score of the first half.

Barça finally got back on level terms after the break with a Torra penalty, and a minute later Noia’s Gil made a mess of an attempt to prevent Pablo Álvarez from scoring and ended up putting the ball in his own net. The momentum was finally with FCB and when Álvarez made it 3-1 they looked home and dry.

But Noia had not had their final say. Bargalló scored from an angle to get them back in contention and a late score from Borja Ferrer sent the game into overtime.

There was no score in the additional period, so the title went down to a penalty shootout, where the luck was with the visitors and it was Noia who went home with the trophy.
