FC Barcelona v Club Petroleros YPF: Best in the world! (6-2)

Goals from Barroso, Gual, Pablo Álvarez (2) and Raúl Marín claimed the win against the South American champions

FC Barcelona have won the Intercontinental Cup for the fourth time with a 6-2 win over Club Petroleros YPF of Argentina at the Palau Blaugrana.

2-0 at break

The side from Mendoza enjoyed as many chances as Barça early on, and it took 17 minutes for the deadlock to be broken with a long range strike from Xavi Barroso. Two minutes later some Raúl Marín brilliance set Marc Gual up for a second, and Grimalt saved a Torra penalty before the half was out.

Direct approach

Barça went out to finish the job in the second half, and on 31 minutes Pablo Álvarez seemed to have done that by making it 3-0. Eight minutes later Raúl Marín confirmed things, capping a great individual performance by thundering home the fourth from the middle of the court. Raw power.

Baielli grabbed a consolation goal for the Argentinians in an almost exact replica of Marín’s for FCB. But Pablo Álvarez immediately responded by making it 5-1 before Baielli salvaged some more honour for the visitors with a finely directed free kick. Matías Pascual made it six as Barça made the most of a later power play, and from then on, the celebrations ensued.

For the fourth time, Barça have been crowned the best roller hockey team in the world.
