Pablo Álvarez celebrates Barça's fourth goal / VÍCTOR SALGADO - FCB

Barça’s roller hockey team lifted their 21st European Cup in Bassano on Sunday evening, beating fellow Catalans Vic 4-3, thanks to goals from Matías Pascual, Barros(2) and Pablo Álvarez. all of which came in the first half.

Barça started at a tremendous pace and Panadero and Pablo Álvarez both threatened early on before Matías Pascual opened the scoring by rounding off a rapid counter attack. The goal woke Vic up and they upped their game and grabbed an equaliser through their captain Titi Roca, before two goals within five minutes from Barroso put Barça out in front again. Ricard Muñoz’s men were clearly on top now and it was no surprise when Pablo Alvarez made it 4-1 before the break. Before that that Barrroso nearly grabbed his hat trick, only to see his effort rattle back off the woodwork and Sergi Fernadez in the Barça goal made a double penalty save to keep out Vic.

Barça keep their cool

Pablo Alvarez hit the post early in the second half, but Vic began to claw their way back into contention with a goal from a long range shot by Dava Torres which clearly lifted their morale. Barça then hit the woodwork twice and saw two efforts ruled out by the referees- It proved to be a nervous end as Mia Ordeig scored a 47th minute penalty, but Barça kept their cool and held firm to retain their European title.
