FC Barcelona’s roller hockey team returned to work this Monday. Gaby Cairo’s men donned their skates and took to the HC Sant Just court - the Palau Blaugrana is still under construction- for today’s training session. The Azulgranas, including the new signing Sergi Miras, are only missing the internationals Marc Gual and Sergi Fernández; both of whom are playing for the Spanish national team in the European championship.

Life after Beto Borregán

Few things have changed since last season, but the absence of one of the team's most charismatic leaders has left a noticeable mark. Former captain Beto Borregán, who retired last year after 18 seasons with the Club, is no longer with the team and atmosphere in the Barça dressing room is different. ‘PulpoEgurrola, a player that has been with the team for 17 seasons, is the team’s new captain.

Another player that’s no longer with the team is Xavi Barroso. The 2011/12 junior player is on loan to Mortiz Vendrell.

Julià’s new role

One of the players that will have a different role within the squad is the youngster Marc Julià. In the 2011/12 season the reserve player often featured in Gaby Cairo’s line-ups. The ease with which Julià interprets and executes attacking plays is highly valued by the manager. This season Julià is expected to have a more predominant role within the team now that he has a first team contract.
