Gaby Cairo’s men continue unbeaten at the Palau, where they have won 11 out of 11 matches played at the Barça arena. FC Barcelona’s roller hockey team are now just two victories away from securing the OK Liga title.

A brave Moritz Vendrell side gave up possession early on, closed themselves off at the back and hoped to capitalize on the counter. And they did it after only five minutes. It wasn’t a goal from a counterattack but a good offensive play finished off by Xavier Costa. The leaders of the OK Liga struck back thanks to a goal scored by the captain, Alberto Borregán. One minute after Barça drew level, Valverde and Garmendia, sent Borregán off with a red card for excessive arguing.

Barça react

Despite being a man down for four minutes, Barça took the lead thanks to a goal scored by Reinaldo García, who took advantage of a great pass from Torra. With Barça back to full strength, Cairo sent in Gual, Álvarez and Barroso. It was the young canterano, with an excellent shot from outside the area, that increased Barça’s lead.

Marc Gual had a couple of chances to widen the gap between the two sides but it was Cristian Rodríguez, Vendrell’s highest goal scorer, who brought the two sides closer together. In the last minute of the first half, Molina saved a penalty shot by Torra and the two teams went to the break with 3-2 on the scoreboard.

Two decisive goals

In the first minute of the second half, Pablo Álvarz scored his 16th goal of the season. Seconds later, Vendrell committed its 10th team foul and Gual, with a magnificent free hit made it 5-2.

The ban news of the night came when Sergi Fernández was injured. Barça’s keeper asked to be subbed out with 20 minutes left on the clock. Egurrola was subbed in. It’s worth mentioning that Cairo can’t use Sergi Panadero, who underwent surgery to repair his fractured finger. Panadero will be out of action for six weeks.

Final push

Marc Julià, on 40 minutes; Pablo Álvarez, from the spot on 45 minutes and Marc Gual, on 49 minutes all scored. The game ended with a final result of 8-2, leaving Barça one step closer to the title.
