Barça’s roller hockey team took a giant step towards the League title after beating Shum Grupo Meastre by 2-7 this evening. Gaby Cairo’s men had to overturn Marc Roca’s early goal in order to take the points. FC Barcelona took their 14th win of the OK Liga season when they swung into action in the second half with goals from Gual, Álvarez (3), Torra and Reinaldo García (2). Barça are now just one win away from mathematically sealing the title. In fact, Barça could win the title at the Palau if they beat Calafell or if the second-place team, Liceo, loses or draws against Reus Deportiu.

Despite Barça being the team that created more scoring chances at the start, it was the home side that took the lead thanks to a goal from Marc Roca after only three minutes of play. The Azulgrana side looked to even things up, but none of the chances created by Barça’s roller hockey team ended in a goal thanks to fantastic saves from Willy Domínguez. On eight minutes, Torra hit the post after a great pass from Pablo Álvarez on the left wing. One minute later, Shum had the perfect chance to increase their lead but David Plaza’s attempt was denied.

0-1 at the half

As time went on, the home side showed themselves to be disciplined in their pursuit of the points. Chances were had at both ends of the court, but Egurrola and Domínguez were up to the task of saving all of them. Barça tried to level the score from long distance but the keeper and Shum’s defence did well to block the attempts. With a little less than two minutes left in the half, FC Barcelona were awarded a penalty thanks to a foul on Álvarez. Jose Moral, who came in as a substitute for a booked Domínguez, saved Reinaldo’s shot.

Barça snap into action

At the start of the second half, both teams looked to score. It was Barça’s turn, however, to capitalise on their chances. After two minutes, Álvarez brought his team level with a low, hard shot to the far post after a stellar assist from Torra. Marc Gual, on 33 minutes, gave FC Barcelona the lead with a free hit. Álvarez, a minute later, increased Barça’s lead after another good assist from Torra.

Marc Roca, with 12 minutes to go before the end, missed a penalty for the home team. Despite being a man down due to Egurrola’s blue card, Cairo’s men still surged forward. Reinaldo capped off a fantastic counterattack to score Barça’s fourth on 39 minutes (1-4). One minute later, Álvarez completed his hat-trick after a great play from Gual. Reinaldo and Torra closed out the rout with two more goals. The only home-side goal was scored by Bartres at the end of the match (2-7).
