The hangover from the Cup exacted a heavy toll on Barça against Igualada. FC Barcelona lost 4-2 in a match that completely went against them in the final 10 minutes of the match. Pelicano, with two consecutive goals, put the game beyond reach of tha Azulgranas in the dying minutes of the game. These two goals turned the game around, before Pelicano notched a brace, the scoreboard read 1-1. Gaby Cairo’s men couldn’t react to the onslaught. The goals from Borregán and Torra couldn’t avert the first defeat of the season. The team, however, remains at the top of the table with 43 points.

Goalless first half

FC Barcelona was the team that created better chances in the first half. But Roger Fernández, Igualada’s keeper, was up to the tasked and denied Cairo’s men. His most notable save was when he blocked a penalty. Both teams finished the half without goals.

Changing sides and scoring goals

The game picked up in the second half. At the start, Torra’s shot hit the crossbar. A minute later, Edu Fernández gave his team the lead with a well-placed shot to Egurrola’s left. Later, Rocasalbas sent another shot to the woodwork. Barça’s response was immediate: Borregán scored to bring his team level and there were still 18 minutes left on the clock.

Pelicano steps up to the plate

When it looked as though FC Barcelona was going to mount a comeback and take another victory on the road, Pelicano netted two goals. Fernández was quick to add one more for the home side before Torra pulled one back for Barça. At the end, 4-2, Barça wasn’t able to avert their first defeat of the season.
