If the FC Barcelona roller hockey team want to seal the Liga title at the Palau Blaugrana they will have to beat the always difficult Shum Grupo Maestre this Monday. The Azulgranas depend solely on themselves to regain the title that slipped away last season. With five matches still on the OK Liga schedule, Gaby Cairo’s men have an eight-point lead over Liceo, who have a game in hand. If Barça win, the lead will jump to 11 points with 12 still up for grabs.

Moreover, next week, the team from A Coruña will play against Tecnol Reus Deportiu - a draw or a defeat would serve up the title to Barça on a silver platter if the Catalans win tonight. These scenarios, however, are simply secondary to the work that needs to be done this evening.

How Barça come into the match

The Catalan side come into the match missing some key players. The captain Beto Borregán, who was ejected from the Mortiz Vendrell match, cannot play today. Sergi Panadero, who underwent surgery on his right hand, is still recovering. Cairo will call upon Spain’s junior champions Marc Julià and Xavi Barroso, along with Pol Galbas, to fill the spots left by the two veterans.

The rival

Maçanet are currently in the ninth spot of the table, they could finish seventh if they beat Barça this evening. The team managed by Jordi Rocas are aware of the difficulty of overcoming FC Barcelona, but they’ll try their best to win the three points in order to get to the European qualification positions of the table. The objective is difficult, but only nine points separate them from third place (Noia Freixent); they also have a game in hand.

Maçanet will be without Juan Castañé, who is injured.
