Viran Morros de Argila

Left back

A fans' favourite and one of the best defenders in the league, he stands out for his pace in transition and his reflexes

Viran began his career in handball at a relatively late stage. He was discovered at the age of 16 by the Barça coaching staff at Valero Rivera’s summer camp and from there he joined the U16 team at FC Barcelona. After progressing through the youth ranks at the Club, he made his way into the first team and finally made his debut on 17 October 2002 in a game against Gáldar.

Following three seasons without too many opportunities, at the age of 20 he decided to leave the Club to continue his career at Teucro. Morros was outstanding in the Galician side and caught the attention of Manolo Cadenas, an expert at spotting young talent who signed him for Ademar. Viran came to prominence at the club from León and cemented his role as a defender. The highpoint of his time at Ademar was when he claimed the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 2005.

At the start of the 2007/08 season he joined Ciudad Real where he has had his greatest success up to now. Three Asobal league, two Champions Leagues are the highlights of the twelve titles he won the club. Morros played alongside the great Didier Dinart, learning enough to claim the Asobal League award for best defender in his first season at Ciudad Real.

A blaugrana since 2011, Viran Morros is a fundamental part of Xavi Pascual's squad. In 2014/15 he played an important part in winning seven titles, including his third Champions League victory, his first at Barça.

After representing Spain at youth level, the Catalan soon became a fixture in the national side with whom he won a gold medal in the 2013 World Championships.

Technical profile

Viran Morros is one of the best defenders in the Asobal League. He is a left back who is a specialist in defending in the middle. Even though he is tall enough to play in that position, his main strengths lie elsewhere. His pace and his reflexes help him stand out from most defenders.
