FC Barcelona Lassa handball have their work cut out for them, as they must overcome a five-goals disadvantage heading into the second leg of the VELUX EHF Champions League quarter-finals.

In the first leg on Sunday night, the German team Kiel won the first leg duel at the Sparkassen Arena by a score of 29-24.

Barça played catch up throughout the game as the Germans, who were led by their goalkeeper Landin and by Klein on attack, were able to hold Bará in check for much of the evening.

Barca Lassa were led by Lazarov, who had a team-high six goals, while a good performance from Perez de Vargas between the pipes made sure Barça remained within striking distance for next weekend's second game at the Palau Blaugrana.

The maximum lead for Kiel was by six goals at 27-21 in minute 55, and Barça knew it needed to reduce the deficit as much as possible in order to give themselves the best possible chance in the return leg at the Palau.

Barça did manage to reduce it five goals (29-24).

In order to be in the Final Four in Cologne, Barça will need to have the Palau rocking. The second leg is set for Saturday at 6.30pm CET.
