Jallouz top scorer against Al Ahly / STEPHANE PILLAUD - IHF

FC Barcelona Lassa have made it to the semi-finals of the Superglobe 2015 tournament after beating Egyptian side Al Ahly 20-16 in Doha, Qatar. Xavi Pascual’s team have won the competition on the last two occasions it has been played and now they will meet Füchse Berlin in the last four on Tuesday at 5.00pm CET.

In the first quarter of an hour the game gave indications that it would be a low scoring affair with both defences dominating. With 15 minutes played the score stood at 5-5 but from that moment Barça opened up an important lead with Al Ahly going almost 10 minutes without finding the net. Jallousz was top scorer in the first half for the blaugranes and in the game with five goals. The blaugranes led 11-5 before a late comeback from the Egyptians saw Barça’s lead cut to 12-8 at the break.

Stop start second half

At the start of the second half Barça took advantage of having an extra man and got themselves five ahead at 15-10. Their opponents, however, fought back and were within two goals of Xavi Pascual’s side at 15-13. Nevertheless, the Catalans knew how to protect their lead. There were plenty of stoppages as no less than 10 players were sent to the sin bin for two minutes. Barça’s defensive solidity came to the fore again and when Filip Jícha made it 20-16 with three minutes to go, there was no way back for Al Ahly with the blaugranes taking their place in the semi-finals.
