Besiktas’ visit to the Palau for  Sunday’s  VELUX EHF Champions League game, will be the first from a Turkish team in 17 years.  

Four wins out of four

Cankaya Ankara were the last Turkish side to play in Barcelona, on October 5, 1997 in the first leg of the last 16 of the 1997/98 Champions League, when Barça won 34-12, winning 30-37 in the return leg a few days later.

The first Turkish team to play at the Palau were Eti Bisk Eskisehir in the 1990/91 Champions League, when Barça won 40-14, to add to their 19-31 win in the first leg in Turkey.

On both those two occasions, Barça went on to win the Champions League.
