Orlen Wisla Plock v FC Barcelona: First defeat of the season (34-31)

Barça were on the back pedal all game and were powerless against a Wisla side that was simply better on the day

Orlen Wisla Pock: Wichary, Ghionea (3), Syprzak (5) Tioumensev (3), Jurkiewickz (6), Zelenovic (7), Nikcevic (2) -starting seven-, Corrales, Montoro (1), Rocha (5), Racotea (2), Wisniewski (-) i Daszek (-).

FC Barcelona: Saric, Víctor Tomás (2), Noddesbo (-), Sorhaindo (1), Raúl Entrerríos (3), Karabatic (3), Sigurdsson (6) -starting seven-, Pérez de Vargas, Sarmiento (-), Rutenka (9), Gurbindo (-), Viran Morros (-) i Lazarov (7).

The handball team has lost for the first time this season at Orlen Wisla Plock in today’s Champions League game.

Wisla led all the way, going four goals up by the end of the first quarter of an hour, leaving Barça in the unfamiliar situation of just scoring six goals in 15 minutes of opening play. Sigurdsson, Rutenka and Lazarov rallied forces, but by half-time the Catalans were still trailing 17-15.

Two Lazarov penalties managed to get Barça back level, but with Jurkiewicz and Zelenovic exceling, the Poles stormed off again. Rutenka’s goals kept the Catalans in some kind of contention, and at 33-31 it looked like they might finally have got back into it. But a questionable foul called against Sorhaindo put paid to that and it all ended 34-31.

Barça now need to regroup in time for the local derby with Granollers at the Palau on Tuesday.
