Nikola Karabatic, millor jugador del món d'handbol 2014 / FOTO: ARXIU-FCB

On Wednesday the voting has been revealed by the IHF (International Handball Federation) for the title of the best handball player in the world for the year 2014. Votes were cast between 13 and 20 February of this year and blaugrana Nikola Karabatic, with 33.7% of the votes, has been declared the winner ahead of Mikkel Hansen and Omeyer.

"Thanks to my team mates"

“I am very proud of have being chosen for the second time as the best handball player in the world. I want to thank my team mates at Barça and with the French national team,” explained Karabatic after being told of the IHF’s award.

“It’s an honour that I want to share with my team mates from both teams and with the coaches, without them this would not have been possible and there is a special mention for my father.”

Second award for the player

The FC Barcelona Handball full-back picks up the award for the second time in his career. He was first named best player in the world back in 2007 and his performances with Barça and the French national side mean that he receives yet another award to put on his CV.

In 2014 with the Barça handball team Nikola Karabatic won the Asobal League, the World Club Cup, the Asobal Super Cup, the Copa del Rey and the Catalan Super Cup, trophies that have helped him to received this latest accolade in his prolific career so far.
