FC Barcelona crushes BM Aragón (42-25)

Sigurdsson and Jallouz power Barça to a stunning opening league win Lazarov (7) and Ariño (5) take charge in the second half to stretch a 10 goal halftime lead

The Barça handball squad, coached by Xavi Pascual, has set the standard for the season with a crushing victory over BM Aragón in the opening game of the Asobal season.  The entertainment began with the presentation of the Asobal Super Cup and the Catalunya Cup plus a chance for the fans to see the up and coming players in the youth squads.  Sigurdsson and Jallouz made a big impact in their Palau debuts while Gonzalo was particularly effective in goal.  The game also marked the return of Demetrio Lozano as opposing coach.

Goals galore

Aragón slowly clawed their way back into the game but a good performance in goal by Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas kept Barça well out in front.  By halftime they led 20-10.

The second half followed the same pattern as Barça steadily widened the gap.  Icelandic international Sigurdsson had a dream debut and finished the game as top scorer (8).

Great start in the Palau

Jallouz joined in the fun with three goals on the bounce while Lazarov took advantage of Barça’s physical superiority to exploit the counterattack and finished the game with seven.  The final score was a stunning 42-25 and now all eyes turn to next week’s SuperGlobe.
