PSG v Barça: Clash of giants in October

Two of the main candidates for the Final Four in Cologne meet in one of the most interesting Champions League games so far

On Sunday at 17.00, the George Carpentier in Paris hosts a huge game between PSG and Barça in Group C of the VELUX EHF Champions League. These are two of the main candidates for the title meeting in what should be a tremendous match of handball.

Paris awaits

Although the game is not a huge one as far as qualification is concerned, this clash between PSG Handball and FC Barcelona  is interesting because of the quality of the players involved.

After disposing of Helvetia Anaitasuna in the last game, Pascual and his team have been preparing intensely for this test. They are taking a squad of 16 to the game in the French capital, with Siarhei Rutenka back after missing the meetings with Metalurg and Anaitasuna through injury.

Both in France and Catalonia, the fixture has sparked a frenzy of media interest, with the French particularly interested in the presence of two national icons, Nikola Karabatic and Cedric Sorhaindo in the FCB roster.

Impressive squad

PSG Handball have been back in the handball elite for two years, and have invested strongly in the side as they bid to join the top table of the European game.

They are currently top of the domestic table, and in Europe have drawn with Vardar, lost to Metalurg and beaten Dynamo Minsk.

Phillipe Gardent’s squad is packed with big names, including world player of the year 2011, Mikkel Hansen, and the man who took the same title last year 2012, Daniel Narcisse.

And there are four PSG players with an FC Barcelona past in Hansen, Igor Vori, Bojinovic and goalkeeper José Manuel Sierra.
