FC Barcelona’s handball team have a long history of going up against German teams. The semi-finals of the Champions League will be the fourth match between Barça and Flensburg; the record between the two handball clubs stands at two victories apiece.

  • Barça’s handball team have played 55 games in Europe against German opposition. They’ve won 27, tied 2 and lost 26. In those games, they scored 1,495 goals and conceded 1,488.

 

  • Since the implementation of the Final Four format, Barça have won the three semi-final games its played in Cologne.

 

  • In 2010 Barça defeated Chehovskie Medvedi, in 2011 they defeated Rhein Neckar Löwen and in 2013 they defeated Kielce.

 

  • FC Barcelona have won 19 European titles: 8 Champions Leagues, 5 Cup Winners’ Cups, 5 European Super Cups and on Copa EHF.

 

  • Kiril Lazarov is Barça highest goalscorer with 71 goals this season in European competitions, he’s followed by Nikola Karabatic (63) and Siarhei Rutenka (58).

 

  • Flensburg’s highest scorer is Anders Eggert with 65 goals.

 

  • The Swedish keeper Mattias Andersen, who came up in FC Barcelona’s youth system in 2001, plays for the German team.

 

  • Víctor Tomás and Kiril Lazarov hold the goalscoring record for goals scored in a single Champions League game. Tomás fired for 10 goals against PSG and Lazarov did the same against Rhein Neckar Löwen.

 

  • The team have played 25 finals in European competitions, of those they’ve won 19. In the European Cup they’ve featured in 12 finals and won 8.

 

  • SG Flensburg qualified for the Final Four after defeating Celje in the Round of 32, and Vadar in the quarterfinals.

 

  • Of Barça’s 283 games in the European Cup, 205 ended in victory, 17 in a tie and 60 in defeat. They’ve scored 8,376 goals in the competition and conceded 6,779.
