Barça’s Handball team put in a great performance against HC Metalurg with a superb defensive performance which limited one of Group C’s top sides to just 5 points in the first half and 17 in all.

Defensive exhibition

Metalurg were unable to break down the Barça defence – they failed to score a single goal in the first quarter of an hour  -whilst Barça themselves managed 7 goals on the counter and provoked 8 turnovers during the same period to set up a massive 17.5 lead at the break

Karabatic scores Barça’s 8,000th goal

There was no change in the second half, as Barça’s defence stood firm – and even when the visitors did get through, they faced the stellar Sterbik, who seemed able to stop everything thrown at him.

Nikola Karabatic made history after the break, bagging Barça’s 8,000th European goal on the way to a resounding 35-17 win.
