Seven Blaugranas, champions of the world! (35-19)

The Spanish national team, with seven Barça Intersport players in its ranks, defeat Noddesbo's Denmark to win the Handball World Championship at the Palau Sant Jordi

The Spanish national team, with seven FC Barcelona Intersport players, took on Denmark in the final of the Handball World Championship this afternoon at the Palau Sant Jordi. After putting in a nearly perfect performance, the Spanish national team claimed the Handball World Championship title for the second time in the country’s history (35-19).  After the match Tomás, Sarmiento, Montoro, Sterbik, Morros, Rocas and Ariño climbed the winners podium to collect their gold medals.

Solid first half from Spain

The Spanish national team made it difficult for Denmark to find a way through its defence. The hatches at the back were batten down by Morros and Sterbik, and Spain’s counterattacks proved lethal. The team, playing on its home ‘turf,’ went to the break with 18 to 10 on the scoreboard.

Spain dominate the second half

Valero Rivera started to give all of his men time on the court after Spain jumpped to a 29 to 12 lead. The Blaugranas Montoro, who scored two goals, and Tomás, Sarmiento and Morros, all of whom scored one goal, did their part to make sure Spain claimed the title.

The buzzer that signaled the end of the championship match blared and Spain was ahead 35 to 19. The Handball World Championship title now belongs to Spain.
