Nine Barça Intersport players reach World Championship quarter finals

Spain's seven Baluagrana players join Sorhaindo and Noddesbo in the fight for a spot in the semi finals

Nine out of ten FC Barcelona Intersport players have reached the quarter finals of the Handball World Championship. After Spain’s victory over Serbia by 20 to 31, Morros, Sarmiento, Tomás, Sterbik, Montoro and Ariño join Sorhaindo and Noddesbo in the fight to reach the semi finals. Belarus’ defeat to Croatia by 24 to 33 leaves Rutenka out of the tournament.

Exceptional game from Rocas

The Blaugrana Albert Rocas led Spain to victory over Serbia with 7 goals from 7 attempts. Dani Sarmiento, who scored 5 goals, and Tomás, with 3, joined their Club and country teammate on the goalscoring sheet.

Barça players scored 19 of Spain’s 31 goals and Arpad Sterbik contributed to the win with 8 saves. Spain will battle it out for a spot in the semi finals with Germany.

Rutenka’s Belarus eliminated in the quarter finals

Croatia defeated Belarus by 33 to 24. Rutenka netted 4 goals and he closed out his World Championship campaign with a total of 46 goals. He’s currently the highest goalscorer in the competition.
