The draw for the handball Champions League quarterfinal tie paired up FC Barcelona Intersport with AG Copenhagen. The Danish side, with the approval of the EHF, have decided to play the match at the Parken Stadium of Copenhagen, where FC Copenhagen practice their trade and where FC Barcelona played on November 2nd 2010 in the Champions League.

Multi-use venue

This won’t be the first time that the Parken Stadium hosts a handball match. The last final in the Danish league between AG Copenhagen and Silkeborg was played on the football grounds.

To receive FC Barcelona, AG Copenhagen will utilize the retractable pitch at the stadium and install a court suitable for handball play as well as modify the stands, which will seat more than 20,000 fans.

Same venue, same objective

Barça’s handball team will play in the same venue that the Barça football team did last season. The objective is identical, reach the next round of the Champions League.

Beating Copenhagen along the way, Josep Guardiola’s men managed to win the Champions League in 2010/11. Pascual’s mean, who have to take on Copenhagen, aspire to lift their second consecutive title - last year they won the Champions League in Cologne.

The match at Parken Stadium is scheduled for Friday, April 20th, at 20:10.
