One victory away from the title / PHOTO: ARXIU FCB

This Saturday, at 20:15 at the Palau Blaugrana, FC Barcelona Intersport and BM Atlético Madrid will play a decisive match that will decide who will be this year’s Asobal champion. The Azulgranas have a two-point advantage over the Madrid side and a two-goal tiebreak lead, thanks to the victory in Vistalegre by 23 to 25.

Here are all the scenarios that would give FC Barcelona Intersport the League title:

Victory = championship

A victory over BM Atlético Madrid this Saturday would give Barça the Asobal League title. The four points over Atlético that Barça would have would mathematically secure the 2011/12 crown - seeing that after this Saturday’s match there will only be four points in play.

A draw would delay the title

In the event that FC Barcelona Intersport and BM Atlético Madrid come away with a draw at the Palau, the Azulgranas would have to win one of their two remaining games in the League. Barça’s last two matches of the season are away to Reale Ademar and at home against Torrevieja.

If defeated...

If the Madrid side beat the Catalans by one goal at the Palau, Barça Intersport would be forced to win both of their remaining matches to win the title.

If Atlético beat Barça by two goals then the Madrid side would top the table due to their more favourable goal average in relation to Barça’s.

If Atlético beat Barça by more than two goals the Azulgranas would have to wait for a Colchonero draw or defeat in the last two matches of the season to regain the top spot. Atlético’s last two matches are against Amaya Sport San Antonio in Pamplona and Reale Ademar in Madrid.
