The match that could decide the Asobal League has arrived. Week 28 on the schedule is marked by the showdown between FC Barcelona Intersport and BM Atlético Madrid. The match will be played this Saturday at 20:15 at the Palau Blaugrana and will be broadcast live on Teledeporte. An Azulgrana victory would give the FC Barcelona’s handball team their 19th League title.

How Barça Intersport come into the match

The Azulgranas come into the match agains the Colchoneros as the unbeaten leaders of the competition. Barça’s impeccable record includes a 23 to 25 scoreline over Atlético Madrid in the Spanish capital and no defeats in the other 26 Asobal matches this season.

FC Barcelona Intersport could claim the Asobal crown this afternoon at the Palau. For this to happen, Barça need to beat BM Atlético Madrid in the Spanish handball Clásico.

One of the key aspects of the match is the Palau Blaugrana. The Barça manager, Xavi Pascual, said that “the Palau gives us an advantage” in reference to the necessary support from the Barça fans in a game that will be decided by “keepers, defences and one-on-one plays.”

Pascual will have the whole team at his disposal, with the exception of Mikel Aguirrezabalaga, who was injured in the match against Copenhagen. The manager will announce the 14-player squad one hour before the match.

The rival

BM Atlético Madrid come into the match at the Palau two points adrift of Asobal League leaders FC Barcelona Intersport. Their claim to the title hinges on beating the Catalans this evening, and if they do it by two or more goals (due to the head-to-head record against Barça) they’ll be in the driver’s seat of the competition.

The Colchoneros haven’t lost any other game in the League besides the one against Pascual’s men and they come into this afternoon’s match with high morale after qualifying for the Final Four of the Champions League after beating Cimos Coper. In Cologne, Atlético will face the team that eliminated Barça from the competition, AG Copenhagen.

For the match against FC Barcelona, the Madrid side will be without García Parrondo and Jurkiewicz, both of whom are injured. However, despite missing these two players, Atlético sill have one of the best sides in Europe.

From Sterbik and Hombrados in goal, with Dinart on defence, wingers like Lazarov and Markussen and the brother of the Barça player Raúl Entrerríos, Alberto, the men led by Talant Dujshebaev have incredible potential.

“We cannot allow them to counterattack,” said Siarhei Rutenka a couple of days ago in reference to what Barça must do to win the game. It’s clear that Barça will have a hard time of it when they face players like Kallman, David and Abalo, all of whom execute this play nearly perfectly.
