After the victory over BM Torrevieja, Barça claimed the Club's 19th Liga title. This means that FC Barcelona Intersport are the most dominant handball team in Spain.

From the 60s to the 21st century

The first Liga title won by the Azulgranas was in the 68/69 season. A team led by the young canterano, ‘Quico’ López Balcells, were the first Barça team to lift the Liga trophy.

Barça’s dominance in the Asobal started in the late 80s when the team that is now known as the handball Dream Team went on an unprecedented five-year winning spree (1987 to 1992).

From 1995 to 2000, Barça’s handball team went on another five-year title winning streak.

This year’s title is the second consecutive trophy won by the current FC Barcelona side after finishing first last year as well.

11 titles with Xavi Pascual

Since Xavi Pascual took charge of Barça’s bench in 2009, the manager had led the team to 11 titles.

Pascual made his debut in the Copa del Rey in 2009 away to Granollers. Under his tutelage, the team have won 2 Copas del Rey, 2 Ligas, 1 Champions League, 1 Asobal Super Cup, 2 Asobal Cups and 3 Ligas Pirineos.

Absolute dominance

The 19 Liga titles mean that Barça are the absolute dominant team in the competition.

The Azulgranas have won the title more times than any other Spanish club. Granollers, another Catalan team, is in second place with 10 titles.

After Granollers come BM Atlético Madrid with 9 titles and BM Ciudad Real with 5 titles.
