The dream of seven titles out of seven was achieved in Gijón, in a Copa del Rei final right on the back of European victory in Cologne and with the Liga title already comfortably in the bag.

It started with a quarter final against Naturhouse La Rioja, who lost at the Palau Blaugrana, 39-28, and also at home, 29-35, to see FCB through to the final four in Gijón.

A semi-finals defeat of Ángel Ximénez Puente Genil (34-23) was followed by a final against familiar foes Fraikin Granollers. The fellow Catalan side had already pushed barça hard in the Catalan and Asobal finals and very nearly pulled off a surprise here.

Barça eventually took it 27-26, with goalkeeper Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas the hero with 26 saves. It meant that they had one every single trophy on offer, something they had already done in 1999/2000 as the Dream Team under Valero Rivera.

That also completed 80 straight victories in domestic competitions.
