Santiago Futsal v FC Barcelona Lassa: In the thick of it (2-3)

A Pablo Mel own goal and strikes from Quintela and Adolfo, gave Andreu Plaza's side an away win against the Galician team meaning they are still in the running for first place of the LNFS

FC Barcelona are still in with a chance of becoming league leaders by the end of the regular season. Andreu Plaza’s side beat Movistar Inter earlier in the week and followed that result with another win in the LNFS. This time Santiago Futsal were the victims and Barça secured the points at a tricky away ground. Pablo Mel’s own goal in the 11th minute gave Barça the lead but they needed goals from Quintela and Adolfo to get the win as Armando scored twice for the home team. The victory means the Catalans are on a 19 match unbeaten run.

Andreu Plaza’s side scored three times in a first half in which Barça dominated. Adolfo and Dyego went close prior to the opening goal which came courtesy of an own goal from Pablo Mel off a Marc Tolrà corner. Armando levelled the scores soon after however Barça regained their lead before the break with two goals. Quintela got the second of the day and then Adolfo got the third. The away side had scored twice in the space of three minutes to put them a two-goal margin which proved to be enough.

Barça went close to scoring the fourth through Adolfo but he was thwarted by the excellent Chema Mella and the post. Santiago reduced the difference with Armando’s second goal of the match in the 27th minute. However, the home side weren’t able to get another as Andreu Plaza’s team defended resolutely from then on.

There was still time for the home side to hit the post one minute from the end but Barça held on to a crucial victory as they look to move into first place with three games left of the regular season. The next match is against Xota Navarra at the Palau on 16 April at 5.00pm CET.
