Levante v FC Barcelona Lassa: Cruel cup exit (5-4)

After forcing extra-time with a goal from Ferrao, the blaugrana slip out of the competition at the death

FC Barcelona futsal were knocked out of the Copa del Rey after an extra-time defeat at the hands of Levante following a strong effort to level the game in normal time.

Barça got off to a great start as Rómulo set up Ferrao who finished well after just three minutes. In a frantic start, the hosts pulled level through Emilio Buendía just two minutes later (1-1). Barça were back ahead on 23 minutes after Joao Batista hit a fabulous free-kick.

Levante made it clear they were not going to lie down easily and after a period of pressure, turned the game on its head to make it 3-2, first through Cecilio and then a second from Buendía.

It was a topsy-turvy game, and it was highlighted by Joselito making it 3-3 just two minutes after Levante’s go-ahead goal. What happened in the final stages of the game, however, was even more enthralling.

Again, Levante went ahead with a minute to go through Lucho, only for Ferrao to take the game to extra-time in dramatic fashion in the very last minute.

But then came the cruel blow. After Adolfo and Ferrao were denied by Yeray in the Levante goal, Rómulo was sent off. Buendía then converted a double-penalty which sent Barça out of the competition when they deserved much more.
