Bateria against Palma / VICTOR SALGADO

FC Barcelona Lassa will have to come from behind in February after having lost the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi final against Palma Futsal by a scoreline of 2-1 in the Palau Blaugrana. Despite dominating possession and having plenty of chances to score, Marc Carmona’s side were undone by winner from Palma’s Taffy with just four minutes remaining.

Coach Carmona warned in the pre-game press conference that Palma would be tough opposition and unfortunately he was proved right. The visitors went ahead after just two minutes of the encounter thanks to an effort from Pizarro. Barça clawed their way back into the game but could not find a way through and Palma threatened to extend their advantage on the counter. Lin and Wilde went close with efforts that brushed the woodwork and then Palma keeper Sarmiento excelled, making save from both Aicardo and Bateria. Nevertheless, after 16 minutes the blaugranes were level, Lin stabbing home the finish after good work from Ferrao.

The home side dominate

The second half began with the home side on the attack, Aicardo going close with an effort that went just over the bar. Just a couple of minutes later the same player struck the crossbar and on 29 minutes Dyego’s acrobatic effort almost surprised Sarmiento in the Palma goal. The visitors took heart from the home side’s lack of precision in front of goal, Bateria going close again just after the half hour mark. The side from Mallorca dealt the killer blow after 36 minutes, Taffy latching on to a loose ball in the area to make it 2-1.

Dyego had a chance to level things up but once again Sarmiento thwarted Barça and victory for Palma means Barça will have to come back from behind in the second leg in three months’ time.
