CE Escola Pia v FC Barcelona: Class over resistance (0-7)

CE Escola Pia v FC Barcelona: Class over resistance (0-7)

FC Barcelona advance in the Spanish Cup with goals from Wilde (2), Aicardo, Dyego (2) and Lozano (2)

Getting through the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey was a mere formality for Barça against Escola Pia of Sabadell, who play two divisions below them. But the home side managed to hold out well early on, despite all of the chances falling to a vastly more talented Barcelona team. Wilde finally broke the deadlock after 9 minutes, before Sabadell made the extraordinary move of playing a rush goalie so early in the game. Yet the gambit almost paid off when their goalkeeper Font almost surprised everyone.

The tactics generated pandemonium in the Sabadell defence, and Barça punished them for it. Aicardo thumped in a second, then Dyego extended the lead with a powerful drive and only the intensity of the Escola Pia players prevented any further scoring in the first half.

Lozano made it 4-0 with the first attack of the second half, but for the rest of the game we saw Escola Pia, boosted by a vociferous crowd, playing their best football. It was only in the final minutes that Wilde, Lozano and Dyego banged home three goals in quick succession to leave the final score at 7-0.
